What Needs To Be Notified

Shower head

On average 90% of plumbing and heating works require you to notify your local authority building control officers.

Where a fault needs a like-for-like replacement you will not have to notify. For example, if an immersion heater was to fail and the plumber was to fit a like-for-like replacement, this does not require notification.

However, if you were to change a kitchen, moving waste pipes and other plumbing systems, this would require notification. Due to the diverse nature of plumbing and heating systems it is always advisable to contact a fully qualified and approved APHC Competent Persons Scheme Supervisor, who will be happy to give you a no-quibble estimate or quotation for the work and advise you if the work requires notification.

If you get a quote from an installer you suspect is not a Competent Persons Scheme installer, your home value could be at risk or additional cost may be incurred at the time you come to sell the property.

The cheapest installer is not always the best! Always ask the prospective installer if a completion notification will be issued by the installer and of which Competent Persons Scheme he or she is a member.
