Certification Process

In order to become approved and gain "Certification Status", the company must meet key criteria:

  • Public liability insurance of at least £2 million
  • Customer warranty scheme being offered
  • To have traded directly in plumbing/heating work for a minimum of 12 months
  • To make jobs available to APHC (Certification) Ltd for random inspection
  • Suitably qualified competent employed staff (Qualified Supervisor/s)

The suitably qualified staff (Qualified Supervisor/s), themselves must also meet certain set criteria such as:

  • Up to date qualifications
  • Sufficient experience
  • All work under his/her responsibility carried out in accordance with the Building Regulations
  • Relevant parts of the Building Regulations and/or technical standards must be in their possession
  • Commissioning instruments related to range of work must be available together with maintenance/calibration records on file

Under the Self Certification scheme there is no need for the company to contact Building Control; the approved company supervisor simply completes a "notice" of the completed job. This notice can be done online 24/7 by means of completing details on a simple form, or it can be posted as a photocopy or even telephoned through to our call centre for an administrator to enter the details.

This notice is conveyed to the Certification body, APHC (Certification) Ltd, who then:

Send a certificate of completed work to the customer

and

Inform you, the Local Area Building Control

All work in scope and carried out by operatives must be under the control of at least one Qualified Supervisor. Only the approved Qualified Supervisor is allowed to complete the commissioning records and in doing so is therefore accepting responsibility for the compliance of the whole completed installation.

The "certificate of completed work" which is sent direct to the customer gives the date, name of installer and type of work done. This will be kept in the Home Information Pack so that future house sales can be made easier and will also be available through local searches when a property is sold in the future.
